All About EddyI am a freelance writer living in North Lake Tahoe, with roots deep in the San Francisco Bay Area and on the California ranch where I grew up. I specialize in travel and ski writing—from essays, profiles, personal experience to essential information. With three grandchildren, “family travel” adds a new dimension. My greatest joy in travel writing is to share the joy of discovery—both external and internal—and to introduce the reader to a place and its people through words which inform, inspire and surprise (even if the reader never goes there).
Being bilingual in Spanish and married to a gregarious Argentine Olympic skier, I have been privy to “insider tips,” personal anecdotes, advice and inspiration from a network of friends, relatives, and fellow travelers in Argentina and much of Latin America. My lust for the open road and fascination for terra incognita has taken me and my camera up, down and over the Andes--on foot, skis and horseback--in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, resulting in articles and photographs published in the San Francisco Chronicle, The Boston Globe, LA Times and International Living, plus a 4-page piece on Argentina for the LA Times Magazine. While writing the original Fodor’s Argentina Guide, and updating the Wine Region and Patagonia chapters for six subsequent issues, I learned to search, analyze and record information on places and experiences of interest to all kinds of travelers: families, individuals, special interest groups, outdoor enthusiasts—all ages and income levels. The discipline of ferreting out correct and current facts, and the joy of sleuthing the new best place to eat, sleep, play and explore have honed my skills as a traveler and a travel writer. Two biographies on western ski pioneers, Wayne Poulsen and Charlie Proctor, have been published in Skiing Heritage Magazine. My story of the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley is in the December 2009 issue of Atlantic Monthly. Tales from Two Valleys ~ Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows was published March, 2013. |
